TOWAMENCIN — On a night where the North Penn boys’ lacrosse team honored their seniors, senior captain Scott Keffer led his team to a 12-6 victory over crosstown rival Lansdale Catholic Friday night.

Keffer scored five goals on the night and chipped in three assists. He was the headliner, but North Penn fittingly got contributions from a lot of their 4th year players to get a quality team win.

“Keffer had an outstanding game,’ North Penn head coach Rick Smith said after the game. “Big players come up in big games.

“I’d like to say it’s not just Scott Keffer. We absolutely had a team effort and that’s why we won the game tonight. For the first time in, what feels like to me even though is hasn’t been, a long time our guys played four quarters of lacrosse. The seniors kept this group together and I think all the parts of the whole came together. Tonight the guys did an outstanding job.’

Other contributing seniors for North Penn on the night included Zach McKelvie (1 goal, 1 assist), Collin Waters (2 goals) and Paul Kim (1 goal). Goalie Trevor Bickel is a senior as well, leading his defense with a couple big saves for the Knights.

North Penn was able to jump on the Crusaders at the start thanks to some sloppy play from LC at the start. The Knights dominated possession for the entire first quarter and capitalized with three goals, all from their seniors. McKelvie scored about halfway through the first, and Keffer followed with a power play goal and a goal off an LC offensive zone turnover.

“You always want to get on top and keep hammering them with shots,’ Keffer said. “We like to always come out in the first and second half strong.’

LC showed some life in the second quarter and got on the board first with a goal by Phil White to make it 3-1, but North Penn’s Luke Homan responded right away with a goal of his own. Another from McKelvie shortly after made it 5-1 and kept Lansdale Catholic at arms length, where they stayed all night long.

The second half saw more of the same, with goals scored by Keffer, Kim and Eric Diamond for the Knights. LC put up a fight of their own and scored three goals in the final quarter, including one of Steve Davis’ two on the night, but it just wasn’t enough. These North Penn Seniors wanted to go out on top.

“A lot of our seniors, when they start playing lacrosse at the youth level, they’ve played with a lot of these guys from Lansdale Catholic,’ Smith said. “It means a lot and they’re going to carry that memory with them for a very, very long time. We really just wanted to finish on a high note for the seniors tonight.’
