WORCESTER >> Turnovers can be the great neutralizer in a football game, even if the more careless team is outplaying its opponent. It can also be the main ingredient of a blowout if the benefiting team capitalizes on its opportunities.

CHELTENHAM — The fullback position isn’t the most glamorous on the football field. In fact, it’s all but extinct in the NFL. But in high school a “secondary” back can be pivotal to an offense.
TOWAMENCIN >> The Dock Mennonite girls volleyball team jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first set and never looked back, sweeping Sacred Heart 3-0 (25-16, 23-25, 25-19) in the District 1/12 regional semifinals Thursday night.
SPRINGFIELD >> The Mount Saint Joseph field hockey team scored the opening goal 11 minutes into its District 1-AA second round match. It turns out that was all the Magic needed in a dominating 3-0 win over Penncrest Wednesday afternoon.
FRANCONIA >> A match between the No. 16 and 17 seeds in the first round of the District 1-AAAA playoffs can often be tilted within minutes. That swing went No. 17 Spring-Ford’s way.
QUAKERTOWN >> Football coaches are in a constant state of preparation. Plays are being scripted on offense, schemes are being developed on defense, and execution in being perfected on special teams. All in an effort to take out the guess work and give a team the best chance to win.
CHELTENHAM — Quakertown took the opening kickoff Friday night and marched right down the field for an opening score. Then the defense forced a turnover on Cheltenham’s first offensive play, and the visitors had another score two minutes later to make the score 15-0 early.
FRANCONIA >> After not trailing for the first 44:30 of its game Friday night, Souderton was down 30-28 after a CB East field goal with 3:30 left in the game.
Then the craziness started.
FRANCONIA >> Souderton’s 7-0 loss to Central Bucks South Friday night can be boiled down to two plays. After a scoreless first half, Big Red took the ball to start the second half and drove down to the South 11 yard line. That drive resulted in a blocked field goal, however, and the Titans scored on a 78-yard run the next drive. Just like that, the game was decided.
UPPER DUBLIN >> It’s tough to lose a football game when the other team scores zero points.
Alright, that’s obvious. But it’s also relevant when talking about Upper Dublin, thanks to the fact their defense hasn’t allowed the opponent on the scoreboard yet. The Cardinals’ D has recorded three shutouts in three games so far in 2016.
